To be spiritually fit is to be rigorously honest with one’s self; to be open to the always unfolding, always evolving river of life. To be spiritually fit is to die over and over again.

We pay plenty of attention to our physical fitness, more recently our mental fitness, but how about the health of our spirituality?

By definition, ‘Spirituality’ is the quality of being concerned with the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things. And of course it is much more than this.

I think spiritual fitness encompasses how we do all things.

It’s in the way we participate in our physical endeavours as it is also in the way we take care of our minds. It’s in the way we choose to act out of love over fear and softening over hardening. It’s in falling off the wagon and picking ourselves back up again. It’s in the reacting and showing ourselves compassion and kindness for doing so.

It’s the forever practice of curiosity and surrendering to the great mystery of life. It’s bringing to our everyday a childlike wonder and acceptance into whatever is placed in front of us at any one time. And when we are met with resistance, and meet others with the same, it’s the asking of the question, “What is this teaching me. What am I not hearing and how can I be of service?”

Spiritual Fitness is when we’re in a state of presence, surrender and utter wonder of this wild wide open world.
